Frequently Asked Question
If you have a question that isn't addressed below, please contact us and we can answer any questions or concerns directly. If we find that your question is common, we will post it on our web site.
How long do I need to let my driveway set before I can drive on it?
It depends on the time of the year that the driveway is installed. Normally, a new driveway only needs to set a couple of days. But during the warmer months (July & August) we would recommend to let a new driveway set for a couple of days longer, if possible.
How long does a driveway last?
Jay Paving Co., LLC puts the utmost quality and care into the installation of every driveway. The average driveway can last up to 20 years (more or less) depending on the amount of use it gets and care & maintenance it receives.
What type of maintenance does my driveway need?
A driveway normally needs to be sealed every 2 to 3 years depending on how much use it gets. Sealing your driveway protects it from becoming brittle and cracking OR allowing water to seep through to the bottom layers.
Does a paved driveway increase the value of my property?
Yes - a paved driveway definitely increases the property value and aesthetic appeal.
Can I just have the base installed and not the top layer?
Yes - you can have just the base installed, however we don't recommend it. The base layer is meant to add strength. The base layer is pourous and if its not covered with the top layer, can allow water to seep through eventually causing the sub-base to soften and deteriorate. The purpose of the top layer is for normal wear & tear and to provide a water repellant surface.
For customers that are not financially able to complete the entire driveway, we suggest that the base be installed one year and the top be installed the next year in order to get the maximum life span from the driveway.
Why have representatives from the electric company, cable company and phone company made spray painted marks on my driveway?
We are required by law to call an organization called "Dig Safely NY". They contact all utility companies who may have lines located underneath a driveway. A representative from these companies will come out to mark out the location of the line so that we are aware of the lines when we start to dig.
